I overtrained myself stupidly attempting IFBB pro bodybuilder Andre Deiu’s workout.
You know how your eyes can be bigger than your stomach sometimes, meaning, at the end of a meal, you couldn’t eat as much as you thought you could? Well, in this case, my eyes were bigger than my muscles.
I overtrained myself because I had no business even trying to workout like Andre Deiu. Number one, I’d only been working out consistently for about a month, so my CNS (central nervous system) was not ready to handle the training stress involved in lifting five different exercises for one muscle group. Secondly, my body was not ready to handle the extra sets in each of those exercises; I was only used to doing three maybe four sets this whole time. His program involved at least 5 sets each time!
And, lastly, I shouldn’t have even tried it because I simply didn’t have the time required to do it. With the proper rest time I would need in order to execute the number of sets and reps he did per exercise, I would need two hours, probably more, at the very least.
Looking at his workout and looking at the clock and thinking I needed to go faster because I had to go upstairs, shower, and get to work probably stressed me out even more.
So, I learned my lesson. Next time I try something like this will be at least 6 months to a year down the road. That’s number one. Secondly, it will be on a Saturday when I can actually relax more and not have to play, ‘beat the clock’ to get all the sets and reps in.
Anyways, I’m skipping today’s workout because I’m still feeling overtrained and want to make sure I give my body enough recovery time and rest to feel better before I subject it to more training stress.
