Does bodybuilding make you dumber? Not that it’s a dumb sport, or it’s a dumb endeavor for myriad reasons because that’s a different question.
The question, ‘does bodybuilding make you dumber’ seems to have gotten some traction on Reddit and a few other places. It’s an interesting question because a lot of people complain that they can’t think as clearly, or have trouble with basic brain function after a hard workout.
I know I feel noticeably dumber and have trouble putting words together after an especially hard workout—and I was an English major in college!
In this podcast, we delve into this question and go over my training log for the day. I trained chest and only chest. I totally switched up my program after coming to some important realizations, namely, I was training way to hard and heavy for being in a deficit and my recovery time needed after workouts was a lot more.
This, in turn, was effecting my sleep and leaving me prone to injury. I’ve switched it up now and feel much, much better. This is a change believe will lead to more gains and a greater overall sense of wellbeing.
